Fantastically Horrific Happenings At Dark Delicacies, Los Angeles

I’ve been to and through Los Angeles a couple of times now but, until recently, I haven’t really had much time to explore. So when I finally got out and hit the pavement, I was thrilled at what I found. There are a lot of great places in L.A., but one of my new favorites is definitely Dark Delicacies.

Now, before we get off on the wrong foot, this has nothing to do with food. I love food (kind of a lot actually) but this little gem is all about horror. Movies, books, loot, everything. It’s a horror fan’s dream shop. From the more “mainstream” type things like Disney villain busts and True Blood mugs,  to more obscure finds like horror anthologies the likes of which you can’t find anywhere else. The husand and wife who own/run the place seem to have struck the perfect balance between established writers and independent ones, giving the store a book selection that could have you browsing for hours.

The same goes for their movie selection as well, which reminds me of another plus: signed copies. They have a wide selection of movies and books signed by their various participants. For example we saw the season one box set of The Walking Dead signed by the cast, as well as several signed copies of various horror anthologies, including many with contributions from Clive Barker.

If autographs are your thing, then this extends beyond just what they have in stock. Dark Delicacies also has regular signings in store, giving you a chance to chat with some great authors, actors, and filmmakers from the horror genre. This is a regular deal, and they seem to have around 6 or more events each month, especially in October. Here’s a few of their upcoming ones:

Fri, Sep 28th 7pm: James T. Bartlett signing of Los Angeles Gourmet Ghosts: A Guide to the City’s Haunted Bars and Restauraunts

Sat, Sep 29th 1pm: Mark Frost signing The Paladin Prophecy: Book 1

Sat, Sep 29th 4-7pm: Black Phoenix Alchemy Lab Full Moon Event

Sun, Sep 30th 2pm: Bowling for Boobies Charity Fundraiser with Dead Heads star Natalie Victoria and director Brett Perce, The Human Centipede’s Ashlynn Yennie, Hostel & Hostell 2‘s Barbara Nedeljakova, Halloween’s Kristina Kebe, Carlee Barker, and more.

Sat, Oct 6th 6:30: Haunted Hearses 2013 Calendar

Sun, Oct 7th: A Tribute To Edgar Allen Poe: The Big Read is a program of the National Endowment for the Arts in partnership with Arts Midwest. 2-4pm: Kids Reading & Crafts, 7-11pm: Mock Poe Seance

Tues, Oct 9th 7pm: Adam Green, Joe Lynch, Corri English and Laura Ortiz signing of Holliston: The Complete Season 1

This is hardly it, but we’ll keep an update on future events.

So if you’re interested in horror, films, television, books, autographs, cool loot, fun, and the darker side of fiction, then this is the PERFECT place for you. And even if you can’t attend, you can still order a bunch of stuff from their website: If you are in the Los Angeles area however, they’re located at 3512 W. Magnolia Boulevard in Burbank, California, 91505
